Klara’s sight disorder
Anmerkung:
Klara momentarily sees the store like a cubic painting, with cut-outs in boxes, allowing her to analyze „Manager’s“ face in detail, detecting „kindness and sadness“, when Klara’s and Rosa’s shift in the shop window comes to an end (without a sale).
This is one of the most interesting effects in the novel. When Klara sees things this way something is happening to her on the emotional level. The reality is distorted, fragmented – as if she was suffering from a technical error; but at the same time she grasps the most important – and discordant – elements of the moment. This is actually her insight.
