Besprechung für Klara and the Sun
This is the third time someone encouraged me to read an Ishiguro book and it is the third time I hated it. When will I learn? Probably never.

Warum erfahren wir nichts über die Leerstellen im Leben von Klara? Wäre es nicht spannend zu erfahren, was Klara tut/denkt/reflektiert, wenn sie „schläft“?
Wieso gibt es in der Welt von Klara keine selbstfahrenden Autos?
Wieso ist fehlen den Teenagern alle Teenager-gerechten Eigenschaften/Motivation?
Wieso ist die Sonne ein „er“? (linguistisch macht das wenig Sinn… Soll hier dem Leser allzu deutlich gemacht werden, dass die Sonne Gott ist?)
Wieso ist die einzige Verortung die Fremde/England?

Zugleich auch die einzige Figur bei der etwas wie Zerrissenheit zu finden ist.
Die beste Szene: I am sick all the time because my mother was brave.
Your question why there are no self driving cars in this dystopian world where Artificial Friends abound may point to a major problem of the novel : projecting some features into a future scenario just as seems fit for the developing of the main plot while neglecting others does not contribute to the overall credibility of the story.
Hmm, I think Ishiguro is not too interested in such technicalities, and frankly, I don’t blame him. The same happened in „Never Let Me Go“ – we were not given much explanation, we just gradually discovered a deeply flawed world and were asked to reflect on the plight of the characters. It worked to an extent, I think, just as in „Klara and the Sun.“ I actually find exposition the most painfully uninteresting part of dystopian stories – only Ursula LeGuin sometimes manages to escape it, by letting the reader infer things rather than explaining everything. But this is just my preference – I’m not a fan of dystopia genre in general…
